About the Author

Mark Karengin

Mark Karengin is a Christian author who writes with honesty, humility, and a deep desire to strip away the complications that have accumulated around the faith over the centuries. He doesn’t claim to have all the answers, but he knows this much: God is love, kindness is the truest demonstration of that love, and we are not meant to earn our way into God’s favor—we are already loved.

In Not the Same Old Christianity, Mark invites readers to think for themselves, to return to the simplicity of the Gospel, and to stop confusing religion with relationship. He writes from personal experience—struggles with prayer, pride, and self-acceptance included—because he believes authenticity matters more than polish. Mark lives with his wife, Janelle, who supported him through this project.

About the Book

Not The Same Old

Christianity

& A Walk Under The Sea

Not the Same Old Christianity isn’t a typical Christian book. It’s short on purpose—because Mark Karengin isn’t selling anything. He doesn’t want you to do more; he wants you to think, and maybe make a change of your own choosing. This book strips away the complicated formulas, the guilt, and the endless rules. Instead, it returns to the simplicity of the Gospel: God loves us. We choose selfishness. Jesus came, suffered, died, and rose again to show the depth of that love. And now, we get to love Him back.

Karengin redefines sin as denying kindness to those we meet. He challenges common ideas about prayer, heaven, hell, missions, and even the Trinity. He invites you to stop striving and start being—being loved, and being love to a world that desperately needs it.

What Our Readers Say

David Matthews Reader

Finally, a Christian book that doesn't make me feel guilty for not doing enough. Karengin's focus on kindness over rules and his honesty about prayer struggles felt like fresh air. I loved his take on the Great Commission—"as you're going"—because it took the pressure off. This book made me stop striving and just be loved.

Sarah Chen Reader

I've read dozens of Christian books, but this one is different. It's simple without being shallow, and provocative without being mean. Karengin's idea that there is only one sin—denying kindness—has stuck with me for weeks. I've started noticing small opportunities to be kind that I used to ignore. Highly recommend for tired Christians.

Michael O'Brien Reader

Mark Karengin writes like an honest friend, not a preacher. His chapter on repentance, in which he describes identifying with Christ's suffering until tears flow, changed how I approach confession. I don't agree with everything he says about heaven and hell, but I respect his humility. This book made me think, which is more than most do.

Linda Peterson Reader

I wasn't sure about another Christian book, but this one surprised me. Karengin's distinction between soul and spirit was new to me, and his encouragement to simply sit in silence with God has become part of my mornings. He doesn't demand you agree with him. He just invites you to love God and be kind. That's enough.

Thomas Bennett Reader

I grew up in a church that constantly talked about spiritual gifts. Karengin's take is refreshing: gifts can't be earned, and seeking them is often pride disguised as piety. He says a humble janitor serves better than a self-promoting prophet. That hit home. This book isn't for people who want to feel impressive. It's for people who want to love. Thought-provoking read!
